Gewa Agogo 2 Tone Wood Block with beater

The Agogo may consist of 1 or up to 4 bells made by wood or metal and a wooden stick to strike the bells. The most commonly used Agogo is made by two bells arranged in U shape. The Agogo bells are of different sizes and for this make different sounds – the smaller produces uppermost tones. This Agogo also has rough surface and can also be play like the guiro, scraping up and down.

Triangle 17cm

The triangle is the perfect size for older toddler hands. It is a metal triangle with a string on the top, holding the string, use the metal beater to tap it to make the lovely sound long lasting sound. The triangle is one of the few non wooden percussion instruments we use in the music group and it can be challenging to use, but we love playing it! Its great for fine motor skills, concentration and control.

Nino Tambour Drum 6″

Nino 6″ Tambour Drum is one of the favourite instruments used in class….Why? Because we can make sooooo much noise! This drum has a lovely sound and we use it for rhythmic games, dynamics and marching activities which helps our gross motor coordination. Over time once we get used to the drum and the excitement we learn to control our hands and play it softly (piano) or loud (forte).

Peek-a-Boo Scarf

We use these for lots of different acivities in every age group, from hiding and playing peekaboo in the 6-18mths group to using it as a prop in a song or story in the older groups. Tambourine 6″

This lovely wooden tambourine with sheepskin drum head is a great additional to any music room. I use tambourines with the cover as it is much easier for little hands to clap it, ones with out the cover aren’t as child-friendly as it takes more precision to tap them. These are used in our weekly music groups to keep to a steady beat, for counting songs and marching songs. Using our hands or our hips we can dance around with our tambourines and have lots of musical fun!

Guiro (scraper)

Thomann Guiro made from beech wood is a quirky addition to our percussion instrument collection. This instrument sounds like a frog as we scrape up and down the grooves with the wooden stick. This instrument is great for young toddlers and pre-schoolers as the learn how to hold it with their fingers through the holes, and instead of tapping they move their hand up and down along the body of the guiro. Wonderful for motor skills as it takes a good bit of concentration initially to get into the rhythm.
